Huey Lewis and the News ran through some of the ’80s biggest hits at The Lawn at White River
I remember back in 1984 watching Friday Night Videos and seeing “I Want A New Drug”. I was hooked immediately after seeing it. While I had heard Huey Lewis and the News before, this was the song that made me a fan.
Something about the band seemed more authentic than many of the flavor of the day one hit wonders that were everywhere in the eighties.
Thirty three years later, Huey Lewis and the News are still out on the road proving that they truly are a band of substance. Making a stop at the White River Lawn, Huey Lewis and the News played a set full of blues/pop/rock hits. They ran through the hits like “The Heart Of Rock And Roll”, “I Want A New Drug”, time traveled with “The Power Of Love” and “Back In Time.” Lewis did some sing-a-long doo wop numbers like “Little Bitty Pretty One” and a new song or two such as “Her Love Is Killing Me.”
The group closed with “Workin’ For A Livin’” which was dedicated to everyone there. Huey’s vocals were smooth and rich. The band and horn section were so tight that they sounded as good as any of their studio engineered albums.
