USA Out of Vietnam is like an urban legend that was never proven. A mythical creature that can blend psychedelic rock, prog rock, and drone all together into a seamless stream of electrified awesomeness.

A clear indication that the song comes fIrst, the band is secondary to the cause of its creation. An eclectic debut, Crashing Diseases and Incurable Airplanes defines the weirdness that streams from the ideology of strangeness that came from bands like Electric Light Orchestra, Can, or Mountain concocted.

The most obvious result from Crashing Diseases and Incurable Airplanes is that the EP utilizes 25 guest musicians into the cauldron. The results are songs that stretch like worlds bending into the universe of your own mind.

Moving through moods powered by galactus-like beats, “Archangel” makes a band like The Flaming Lips sound like a bunch of pansies. And honestly, this band does it better than the Oklahoma freaks.

“You Are A Comet, You Are On Fire” takes found sounds that flawlessly bleed into the pop construct of our conception of the familiar. They extrapolate it from the unusual to make it all feel like a fuzzed-out singularity.

“Asphodell_1322” is a state of mind with its doom-based foundation and meditative feedback co-mingling with low-end rumbles. Add in extreme minimalism, the silence is almost more painful than the volcanic eruption that comes with the ear-splitting notes of doom.

Crashing Diseases And Incurable Airplanes is an album that breathes and grows. There is contrast and there are compliments within the framework. The resistance is equally important as the give.
