Point Mort
Le point de non-retour
Almost Famous
The last time I heard an album of this abrasion was when I first spun Skinny Puppy’s Too Dark Park. Point Mort’s latest release gives me flashbacks of the sheer shock and horror that Skinny Puppy scraped our brains with. Here Point Mort provides extreme shock through a postcore approach like nightmares having nightmares.
I have not heard of another vocalist of this versatility. Sam Pillay displays confidence, strength, and rage in the most unhinged way. One moment you are with them and the next you are running away in terror.
Take “Skinned Teeth.” That song is hyper punk with clawmarks masked as screaming hardcore that stretches into the chorus that fuels a sense of harmony and depth without losing an ounce of momentum.
Even in sincerity as in the title track, you still get a feeling of unease. The intention and creativity into something like that is unparalleled. With a full length of intensity, you will be exhausted by the sheer velocity this band has composed. It’s all just such an eye opener where the music goes to the outer reaches without being incomprehensible or grotesque just for effect.
Le point de non-retour is a solid experience front to back!
