Keep
Almost Static
Independent
Keep’s latest is a musical landscape that contours to experience and drives through the terrain of ‘90s rock in the most flattering of ways. Almost Static builds perspective through hallowed dissonance and shoegaze explorations.
“Fun Facts” feels immediately introspective as it does chaotic only to bounce into some of the most beautiful rock pop. “Smile Down (Into Nothing)” solidifies the sense of wonder that Keep leverages. This is an album with songs that connect to each other like train cars, each one telling their own story but combine to form a greater entity.
Eleven songs feels very expansive as if you have spiralled into a world of daydreams. You can get lost in the meandering notes of the title track or slink into the back seat with “Gasoline,” which feels very much like late 1990s indie rock.
As solid as this album is, it’s fueled by experimentation. A song like “Bermuda” is new territory. They give into the urges and let creativity open up, bouncing notes and rhythms off of each other.
Almost Static is an album that haunts you long after with the urge to embrace their songs even more. It’s simply addictive!
