πβ(Spiral Question Mark)
Independent
Imagine amber hues glazed over by wet pavement; the night is long. A lonely walk through the city turns urban life into longing. A song like βElevatorβ shows brothers Jonathan and Nick Campolo to be coy with their creativity, reaching out into the past to add sensuality and soulfulness into their music.
(Spiral Question Mark) is a preserved timestamp of luscious pop songs that blend decades of history with AM radio fantasies. It stems from their love of bedroom recording techniques. The song βHistoryβ uses lofi electronics to add flavor of intimate apartment dance parties to the ghosts of avant garde pop.
Feeling folksy, βCandyβ is a psychedelic stream of consciousness that detunes notes in a way that makes you zone out and feel the group’s artistry in a new way. Then you get to a song like βHeadlights,β and you feel like John Vanderslice had something to do with its disjointed eloquence. The perspective feels like a Hitchcock film.
The album ends like finding a random vacation photo in an antique shop. Itβs a sound that feels so familiar but is longingly absent. (Spiral Question Mark) is intentionally effective.
