Liam Benzi
…And His Splash Band
Fat Possum
Liam Benzi is back in the New York groove with his new album, …And His Spash Band. This is a collection of gorgeous bubblegum in the sincerest of flattery. His silky tones overlay some of the smoothest creative songs you can imagine coming from the New York resident.
Benzi collaborated with the finest indie flavors like Ren G of Club Eat, Lecx Stacy, SSION, Maine of Porches, and Devonté Hynes of Blood Orange on the song “Other Guys.” The song is freewheeling pop that glistens in perfect summer pop rock fashion. Benzi’s voice is easy on the ears and easier to just hit that repeat button.
A discussion with a close friend revealed the inspiration for dust. She was told by someone that, “You’re too magnetic so all the dust comes your way.” It sat with Benzi and soon enough a song emerged from that observation. What came out of it was a jangly abstraction of pop goodness with a chorus that’s out of this world, really pushing the dynamics.
Benzi’s artistic expression is drifting, especially with “PTLSD” with SSION. The song is pure bliss; paradise nestled in a comfy chair of daydreams. You can almost feel yourself floating.
I cannot tell you how much I love the feeling I get when listening to this album. Everything feels so natural and effortless that you cannot help but be enchanted by that.
