The Rubber Teeth Talk
S-Curve Records
Daisy the Great returns with an exuberant follow-up to the 2002 release, All You Need Is Time. Duo Mina Walker and Kelly Dugan continue to use their professional artistic skills to create an album chock full of glimmering indie pop gems.
These songs make me feel like a breezy summer afternoon listening to All About Eve or late nights after a Dawson’s Creek binge. Combining tight harmonies with breezy layers of vocal bliss, The Rubber Teeth Talk showcases enlightened musical fancy with the voice taking center stage driving each song. The instruments are only used as landscapes.
Their philosophy to songwriting seems logical being that both Walker and Dugan were majoring in acting and joined forces to see where their combined creativity would take them. It’s comforting to listen to just how effortless a song like “Lemon Seeds,” “Dream Song,” or “Mary’s at the Carnival.” If early 1990s 4AD could reach its delicate hands through the rift of time and grab onto these songs, it would.
Their experience transcends into your experience as you cannot help but be caught up in the tones, the emotions and beauty like being lost in an old library and discovering a classic novel for the first time. Just like the delicate weaving of prose, The Rubber Teeth Talk will rope you in.
