Necrot – The Leading Face in Death Metal

Necrot teams up with Blood Incantation and Obscene to shake up Indy’s Black Circle Brewing

Since the release of Blood Offerings (out via Tankcrimes) in 2017, Necrot has forged a sense of respectability to the traditional values of death metal that blossomed in the early ‘90s while etched a name that has earned this Bay Area band a global reputation. Right after Blood Offerings was released, it landed on Billboard’s Hard Rock Chart at #29 and #52 on Billboard’s New Artist Chart.

With this upswing in popularity the band spent 2018 as a live powerhouse. They have teamed up with bands like Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse along with others in the metal community to perform thunderous shows across the country. And now they are in the midst of a colossal US tour pairing up with Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Immolation and Blood Incantation with support from Decibel Magazine. Coming out of the opening night in Albuquerque, New Mexico, drummer Chad Galley was ecstatic about this upcoming tour.

“It was a great way to kick off things. All the bands were sick. It was a great turnout. I couldn’t have asked for a better show. We just have been touring heavily with two North American tours and went to Europe six months ago and we played there for six weeks. People were really excited for us to come out there. It’s been a great time trying to promote the album as much as possible.”

After Blood Offerings was released, the band saw them on the bill for some of metal’s hottest festivals, including Psycho Las Vegas, Northwest Terror Fest, the Decibel Magazine Metal and Beer Fest among others including all of the European festivals they performed at.

“We’ve been touring every year since 2012. We released solid albums, and it speaks for itself. If you put out quality stuff, people are going to want to see it and more opportunities will come your way. We have worked really hard to get to this point.”

Having the strength of the Bay Area death metal scene, Necrot lay the groundwork to be something bigger.

“There’s tons of great bands from the Bay Area who have been playing for years. You have Autopsy, Exhumed, Immortal Fate, all of those bands are huge. Growing up for me, I was listening to punk more. I got into underground heavy metal or death metal in my mid-to-late teenage years. Having both backgrounds opened me up to seeing different bands in the local area and checking out other bands from abroad. Necrot has been influenced by bands from all over the world and not just from the Bay Area. While the Bay Area does have an impact for us, our sound is reflected from all over.”

That sound officiated with their demos escalating into the tornadic guitar fury of The Labyrinth. Necrot had power and intensity yet their studio production was not quite on a professional level that we hear on Blood Offering.

“We had done the three demos and did the demo compilation LP. It was about time we got working on the full length. We were starting to write for most of 2016. Once we had everything solid, we went into the studio August of 2016 and recorded everything. The master was completed in January 2017, and then the album came out in June. We worked pretty fast to get it out there. We definitely put everything we had into the studio, and I think it shows.

“Before we go into record we try to practice as much as possible so that we know we are ready. We are not going to go in and half ass it. The recording for Blood Offering went as well as it did. We had to break up the recording time. That’s why it took five or six months to finish. Yet, while we were in the studio we did not waste any time. We are paying for it. We are not looking for label support. We want the album to be ours and we have to make it count every time.”

An addition to the Decibel tour, Necrot will be playing offset shows with Incantation, including a stop March 5 in Indianapolis at the Black Circle Brewing Company. It’s an eclectic experience of the band in a more intimate environment. Whether it is small clubs or large festivals, Galley is constantly focusing on improvement.

“When you are playing all the time, you have to play at 100 percent. Doing all of this stuff, it challenges me to be the best drummer I can. I make sure I play well every single time.”

After the Decibel tour, the band will begin working on new material with the goal of finishing up by end of the year. For now, catch them in a city near you.
